We picked up gold awards and made it into the final four.

Competing with the best

One of the things we were looking forward to when we opened was getting involved with Scottish Craft Butchers and entering the various competitions and product evaluations they run throughout the year. This can range from competitions on knife skills and innovation to awards for steak pies and sausages. We recently enjoyed some success...

Going for gold

In the “Ready to Cook” product evaluation we won Gold for our Stornoway Pepper Parcels, a seasoned burger meat cup filled with Stornoway black pudding and a creamy peppercorn sauce, wrapped in our own dry cured streaky bacon. We also received Gold for our Chilli Cheese Meatloaf, a seasoned pork and beef mixture flavoured with herbs, chilli jam and cheddar cheese. This has a mozzarella stuffed centre and is finished with a chilli jam glaze and grated cheddar cheese.

It’s down to the hard work of all the staff that we can now call ourselves an award-winning butcher!

The awards were presented in Perth at the Scottish Craft Butchers Trade Fair. At the same event, we had Colin take part in Meat Skills Scotland 2017. The heats had been held a little over a month before and were open to anyone in Scotland to enter. Colin made it to the final four and had to work hard under pressure to put on a display using beef, lamb, pork, chicken…. and a little innovation. Unfortunately, he didn’t win this time but did fantastic to reach the final four in the whole of the country.

We’re also delighted to announce that we have Robbie Hughan starting with us in the Smiddy Butchery. Robbie is a qualified butcher and we’re looking forward to putting his talents to good use!
